MEET Alan:
I like my coffee black and my whiskey neat. My favorite President is Teddy Roosevelt, though Abraham Lincoln and JFK do have some things going for them. I am a jeans and t-shirt kinda guy. I married my college girlfriend and have 2 kids, and a dog.
I have a degree in Aerospace Engineering, which in theory makes me a rocket scientist, in practice it means I know enough not to be making things that people ride in hurtling through the air at hundreds of miles per hour.
I was born and raised here and served multiple terms on City Commissions:
Freeway & Transportation (2 terms, 2011-2018)
Parks & Recreation (partial term)
The things I identify with most, are my family, my faith, my engineering background and my community. In reality I am just another person, not one of affluence or influence, and we need more of that in our government. I believe in the crazy idea that our government should work for the people, not the other way around.
What should the priority of our government be?
The lively-hoods of the people of our state. Good paying jobs. Quality affordable education and healthcare and a fair and unbiased criminal justice system.
The general infrastructure of the state, roads, bridges, water, food, power systems and schools need to be maintained for our future generations as well as natural conservation.
We have never been more successful than when we have been united in purpose. The "American Dream" of self-sufficiency and self determination has been taking a beating and we need to balance national passion with global humanism. A renewed focus on exploration and innovation, medical and scientific, to rebuild a united focus and lead the world to a better, brighter, future.
I bring a modern, trans-partisan perspective and an engineering problem solving background, not a partisan rhetoric, argumentative, one.
As an engineer it is my political philosophy to not take any ideas off the table, to assemble experts, facilitate problem solving and create solutions. I believe that the basis of a good leadership and representation, for the all people, not just some of them, is rooted in listening to the actual people effected.
I will not fund-raise and/or campaign for a 2nd term. I will be a voice for “We the People” not any Party Agenda.
Statement on June 5, Primary:
I would like to thank the people of our Assembly District 41. Tuesday’s results will allow this campaign to continue to November, focused on people instead of on solely partisan options. By providing an alternate option that does not conform to the standard political mold. I look forward to working with people to encourage input and develop solutions for our district and state with a problem-solving mindset.
Thank you as well to Assemblyman Chris Holden and Candidate Kenny Rotter for the respectful campaigns that we have been able to maintain throughout.
Candidate Statement:
We have a real chance for something different, something special, for California, in this district. As an engineer the starting point for me is numbers. This district is 44% Democrat, for the 12% of the district who voted for People's Democrat Kenny Rotter in the primary, or those that voted for Bernie in 2016, I’m your alternate option. For the remaining 56% it’s a pretty even split between Independent/3rd Party & Republican, we can make a change; a real chance to elect an Independent for California, here and now.
This run started out of a civic duty to give people a different option.
I promote the idea of a weekend, everyday citizen centered, legislature because it would better fit those with family life and perhaps others like me who want to be civically engaged, electorally, as well as more direct community engagement.
I promote innovation, because as an engineer, it’s something I understand.
I am anti-corruption because no one campaigns on it, lots of people talk about it, and not many do much about it.
I don’t fit the progressive/conservative mold. I provide an engineering based, problem solving, perspective that stands outside the box of traditional political lines and rhetoric.
I’m an engineer, a former candidate for City Council (2011 & 2013), Lt. Governor (2014), Assembly (2016) and an experienced City Commissioner (2010 - 2018).
Focuses:
- Put in place any and all methods to reduce and remove corruption in our government. I view the Anti-Corruption Act as a conversation starter, some of it may not fit everyone's ideals, but as ideas go it's a beginning. Feel free to let me know what you would add or change.
- Utilize the resources of our research Universities, specifically Cal-Tech in our district, to better bring ideas and technology from the brains and labs and into real world production, and quality jobs, here.
- Citizen legislature. As it stands our elected officials spend their time in Sacramento, talking to each other (and lobbyists), this not only reduces the time spent talking to local constituents, it reduces the viability for normal people, with lives and families here, to run for office and participate. I propose a legislature that meets 25 weekends out of every year and representatives that spend more time in district with everyday people. We can utilize modern technology for any additional interactions among legislative members.
I feel that for those in legislative office it is important to remember that the job is not to lead, it is to listen and represent. What other ideas do you have? I am listening.
I am running as a civic duty, the establishment cannot run unopposed. Above all else I stand for anti-corruption, electoral and campaign finance reform, individual rights, liberty, fair justice, and a better California for us and our children.
