TEXAS RECOMMENDATION: Lorie Burch – Texas CD3 – U.S. Congress
Our Moment - Our Legacy
A Local Kid...
Lorie is a long-time resident of Collin County who attended Shepton High School and Plano Senior High. Lorie is proud to say that she is a “local kid who scooped ice cream at Henry’s Homemade Ice Cream, learned to drive at Sears at Collin Creek Mall, and taught Sunday School with her parents at Custer Road United Methodist Church.” Lorie and her family relocated to Plano after spending two exciting years in Jakarta, Indonesia where she attended 8th and 9th grades at Jakarta International School. Lorie says that living in a third world country, predominantly Muslim, and attending school with students from over 30 different countries, not only make her value and celebrate all people and perspectives, but inspired her to appreciate the opportunities we have in the United States and to work to make it a better country for all.
Lorie went on to graduate cum laude from Trinity University in San Antonio. During her junior year of college, Lorie attended American University in Washington, DC as part of their special Washington Justice Semester program where she interned as an investigator with the Public Defender Service of Washington, DC. Lorie then earned her law degree at the George Washington University School of Law School in Washington, DC.
In 2004, Lorie moved home to Plano to be closer to her mom after the loss of her amazing stepfather. Lorie decided to start her own law practice focused on Wills, trusts, end of life decisions, and probate. Lorie immediately got involved in local civic and business organizations, including the Plano Chamber of Commerce. She was also instrumental in starting the Young Professionals of Plano (YPP) and served as the YPP Professional Development Chair from 2007-2009. In 2007 – 2008, Lorie served on the Board of Directors for “The Classics”, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing theater and arts for children.
Lorie has dedicated her education and professional life to leadership and advocacy. Through her practice, she has assisted the LGBT community, the elderly, children with special needs, veterans, and everyone in between! Beyond her practice, Lorie has always sought to be a leader and advocate.
In the summer of 2017, Lorie officially became a wife and mother to two adorable girls. They make their home in Plano where the kids proudly attend public school. Lorie and Kimberly live nearby their mothers, Lorie’s in McKinney and Kimberly’s in Plano, and make family and faith their number one priority.
…and an Elvis Fan
No biography is complete without sharing that Lorie is the “biggest” Elvis fan who regularly makes pilgrimages up to Memphis for Elvis Week and even convinced Kimberly to get married at Graceland!
