My name is Michael Weiss. I was born in Las Vegas, NV in 1982. I attended elementary and secondary schools in Las Vegas, including Advanced Technologies Academy. I received my high school diploma from Horizon High School, one year ahead of my class.
I always did well in school academically, but I knew I was just a little different from the other kids. I struggled with communicating and interacting with my peers, which made me an easy target for bullying. My parents sought help for me, but it would not be until my late 20’s that I was correctly diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome (now known as Autism Spectrum Disorder).
My difficulty understanding the world around me, particularly the discord that occurred within it, compelled me to study sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earning my Bachelor’s degree in 2004. It was during this time that I became conscious of the numerous social ills that permeated American society, as well as viable solutions to remedy these ills.
Following graduation, I moved to South Florida after the University of Miami offered me a full graduate scholarship. I earned my Master’s degree in 2006, specializing in criminology and medical sociology. My thesis focused on drug use among adolescents. For the next four years, I did research on the health behaviors of individuals who use illicit drugs – heroin users in particular. Portions of my work were published in the Journal of Drug Issues. I also taught criminal justice and sociological theory to undergraduates at the University of Miami. It seemed that I was on track to follow in my mother’s footsteps and become a university professor. However in 2010, I decided a career change was in order and revisited my childhood passion – computers.
I enrolled in Palm Beach State College and graduated magna cum laude with an Associate of Science in computer programming in 2012. Immediately following graduation I was offered a job as a Database Administrator. I decided to return to Las Vegas to be closer to my family in January 2016. I currently work as a Software Engineer.
My academic, work, and life experiences, as well as guidance and insight from my friends and family have helped shape who I am today. I strive to practice the virtues of integrity, honesty, charity, humility, and gratitude in all areas of my life. These are the virtues I will adhere to if I am fortunate to be elected 3rd Vice Chair.

It is with great honor and excitement that I am announcing my candidacy for Third Vice Chair of the Clark County Democratic Party. The CCDP Third Vice Chair serves as the chair of the Community Outreach and Activism Committee and acts as the liaison to all chartered clubs and caucuses. When I moved back to Las Vegas approximately 3 years ago, the clubs and caucuses served as my “point of entry” into Nevada politics. Through participating in various events and projects held by the clubs and caucuses, I befriended several like-minded Democrats that share my passion for economic, social, racial, and environmental justice. The debt of gratitude I owe to the CCDP clubs and caucus members cannot be quantified with words. Now, with my candidacy for Third Vice Chair, I hope to give back to those who have done so much for me.
If elected, I will seek to charter new clubs and caucuses to represent regional areas and demographic groups that are currently unrepresented. I will work to solidify a symbiotic relationship between the clubs and caucuses and the CCDP Executive Board in hopes of increasing membership and participation on the Clark County Central Committee and support the endeavors of the clubs and caucuses. Finally, with the 2020 Presidential election on the horizon, I will seek and help implement solutions to current issues facing the CCDP precinct captain program which will include helping to fill vacant spots. I will also work to ensure that adequate caucus training will be available to all Democrats.
